Throughout its century of existence, every moment of Le Mans has
been captured in countless photographs. From black & white to
colour, these particularly vivid images bring to life a whole
world: that of the cars, naturally, but also of the many human
players – drivers, engineers, mechanics – and the public,
always numerous and varied. The authors summarise the moments and
actions of the key characters, identifying five major periods:
1923-1929: The time of the pioneers 1930-1967: Reconstruction and
globalisation 1968-1981: In search of the right solution 1982-1999:
The 21st century in sight 2000-2022: A Modern Race Text in English
and French.
Phenolic Compounds: Structure, Uses and Health Benefits opens with
a discussion on phenolic substances such as gallic acid, catechin,
chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, and
quercetin. The most common analytical methods (based on
spectrophotometric, chromatographic or electrochemical techniques)
for determining phenolic compounds applied to a wide range of
sample sources are presented. Additionally, the authors study the
high concentrations of bioactive substances in fruit berries in
order to determine the link between daily fruit intake and human
health. A review of the modern literature on extraction,
filtration, and adsorption that may be combined with advanced
oxidation treatments to minimalise the environmental impact of the
remaining wastes is presented, especially focusing on phenolic
compounds recovery from olive mill liquidwastes. Lastly, the
authors provide an overview on the antiradical and antioxidizing
properties of calix[n]arenes and calix[n]resorcinols as part of a
larger discussion on the impact of preorganization of antioxidant
fragments attached to calix[n]arene and calix[n]resorcinol
scaffolds and their intramolecular synergy on antioxidant activity.
Short stories that are a little strange with twisted endings.

In 1979, serious research was just beginning on the connections
between stratification outcomes and organizations. Data suitable
for investigating these connections were scarce, and the general
wisdom was that they would remain scarce--since organizational case
studies were seen as the only means of gathering linked individual
and organizational data. The case study approach does allow one to
link the two types of data, but gathering such data on more than a
few organizations is prohibitively expensive and difficult, and
having only a few organizations limits g- eralizability. To help
solve this problem, we developed the idea of a survey of a random
sample of several thousand employed individuals, followed by a
second survey of their several thousand employing or- nizations.
This method, we reasoned, would provide us with a gen- alizable,
simple random sample of individuals, coupled with a weighted random
sample of organizations (weighted, of course, by size of orga-
zation). An added benefit would be that these valuable data could
be gathered by a survey organization for the price of two simple
surveys. It was not an easy idea to sell. We developed it into a
proposal to the National Science Foundation (NSF), and though the
reviewers were o- erwise sympathetic, they were almost unanimous in
their contention that such a survey would not work because
"obviously" the great maj- ity of respondents would refuse to
reveal exactly who their employers were.

"Historically, managing fighter pilot requirements has been a
continual challenge for the Air Force Personnel Center. In recent
years, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have become a highly sought after
commodity, and the number of UAV billets have increased, with more
increases expected in the near future. Currently 45% of UAV
squadrons are manned by combat aircrew. Fighter pilots fills the
majority of these slots. This dramatic increase in UAV requirements
demands analysis for the impact on fighter pilot requirements. An
increase in UAV fighter pilot billets represents a direct increase
in force requirements, however, there may be an indirect effect on
training and man year requirements."--Abstract from web site.
